H.R. 308 - High Capacity Magazines PDF Print E-mail
Written by Scott Jones

I just fired off an email to Rep. Sam Johnson on HR 308. I will post a link to the bill The text of my email follows:

I just read HR 308 which has been proposed to limit "high capacity magazines". I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO OPPOSE THIS BILL.

First of all, I think it violates the Second Amendment. It definitely infringes the right of the people to keep and bear arms, by limiting their choices. It is unconstitutional on its face.

Email to Texas Senators on START PDF Print E-mail
Written by Scott Jones

I sent this to Senators Hutchison and Cornyn today:

Please vote NO on the START treaty. It appears to give up way too much to Russia, while letting them keep their  advantage in tactical nuclear weapons. The treaty also will inhibit our deployment of missile defense, which we need not just for the Russians, but to protect us from the madmen in Iran, North Korea, and whatever tinpot dictator gets nukes next.

It is appalling that Sen. Reid would try to get this done in a lame duck session. That tells me something about how bad this bill is. I would prefer to see it die permanently, but at the very least it should be held over for the next Congress to allow for extensive deliberation on this major piece of legislation.

Response to Sen. Cornyn on a Balanced Budget PDF Print E-mail
Written by Scott Jones

I sent this to Sen. John Cornyn on December 3, 2010:

I agree with you that fiscal responsibility demands that the federal government balance its budget. I do not agree that a balanced budget amendment is the way to do that. Briefly, focusing on a balanced budget is trying to manage the effect, not the cause. In business we know that you solve problems by addressing the causes, not trying to manage the effects. The cause of our economic woes is out of control federal spending.

How to Cut the Budget PDF Print E-mail
Written by Scott Jones
Saturday, 13 November 2010 21:59

Cutting spending is the only way that we can bring the federal budget under control. Raising tax rates will produce reductions in tax revenue that will only exacerbate the current problem.  Continued borrowing will lead to monetization of the debt and runaway inflation.  A dismal end for our economy.  I hear the progressive/liberal/statists say "So, what would you cut?"  OK - here are some of my ideas about how to go about cutting federal spending.
